Ukraine’s export of organic products to the European countries increased by 15,3% in 2022

After February 24, 2022, when russia launched the full-scale war against Ukraine, the Ukrainian organic sector, like the whole agricultural industry, was badly impacted but withstood and managed to succeed on the economic frontline of Ukraine.

In 2022, the Ukrainian organic sector exported 226 400 tons of organic products to the European countries (EU, Switzerland and Norway). Despite the fact that large amounts of agricultural lands were occupied and mined, active hostilities and missile attacks took place on the entire territory of Ukraine, the Ukrainian organic producers managed to increase their exports by 15,3%.

Netherlands became the undisputed leader among the European importers, having imported 101 000 tons of Ukrainian organic products, which accounted for 45% of the total Ukraine’s exports of organic products.

Corn accounted for almost 40% of the total export of organic products (89 600 tons exported).

As for the transportation, the majority of products were exported by road vehicles (58.6%). By sea and river vessels there were exported 26,8% of organic products while by railway - 14,6%.

More data on Ukraine’s exports of organic products can be found on the newly developed dashboard “Export of the Ukrainian Organic Products”, launched by the Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office in partnership with Organic Standard certification body and with the support of Switzerland within the Swiss-Ukrainian program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” implemented by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL, Switzerland) in partnership with SAFOSO AG (Switzerland), www.qftp.org.

The dashboard allows to analyze the volume of Ukraine’s exports of organic products by product groups, importing and destination countries, and types of transport during 2021-2023. The dashboard data is to be updated on a monthly basis.
