Australian government canceled import duties for Ukraine for a year

The Australian government has announced the abolition of customs duties for Ukrainian exports. Goods produced in Ukraine will freely enter the Australian market, thereby contributing to the growth of export activity.

The decision provides for the reduction of the tariff rate from 5% to zero on goods produced in Ukraine. The benefit will be valid for 1 year. Liberalization will not affect excise duties applied to fuel, alcohol, and tobacco products - they will continue to apply to Ukrainian products.

Australia is a promising trade partner of Ukraine with a strong export potential for Ukraine. In 2021, the export volume of Ukrainian goods increased by almost 44% compared to 2020. Our country upped the supply of products of the metallurgical complex - by 1.9 times (by USD 7.2 million), mechanical engineering - by 1.7 times (by USD 5 million), products of the agricultural industry and food industry - by 18.6% (by USD 4.3 million). Also, the export of services from Ukraine to Australia increased by more than 2 times.

In January-April 2022, the foreign trade turnover of goods with Australia amounted to USD 95.7 million and increased by 2.2 times - mainly due to the increase in the import of goods and services to Ukraine, in particular, gas, fuel and petrol products.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation, Australia has provided comprehensive support to our country. These are large volumes of humanitarian aid, supply of necessary weapons to Ukraine, as well as trade measures to put pressure on countries that support armed aggression against our state. For example, Australia imposed a 35% tariff on all goods from russia and belarus in addition to already existing tariffs and banned the import of russian oil, petroleum products, natural gas, coal and other energy sources.

The abolition of customs duties for Ukraine will open up new opportunities for Ukrainian exporters, will allow to increase trade turnover between the countries and strengthen mutually beneficial partnership.
