Ukraine and Chile are interested in opening negotiations on FTA

The conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement can be an effective tool for realizing the trade potential between Ukraine and Chile. In January-August 2021, the trade turnover between Ukraine and Chile increased by 13.4% to USD 45.1 million. In particular, Ukrainian exports doubled to USD 7.8 million.

The possibility of starting negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Chile was discussed today during a meeting between Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine - Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Chile in the Republic of Poland (with concurrent accreditation to Ukraine) Julio Bravo Yubini.

«The current volume of trade between our countries is not exhaustive and needs to diversify the areas of bilateral trade. Ukraine aims to deepen bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere by creating conditions for free trade, improving the business climate, and increasing investment. We are interested in starting the negotiation process on the Free Trade Agreement with Chile,» said Taras Kachka.

The Deputy Minister added that the mining, agriculture, transport, space, aviation, pharmaceutical and energy sectors are of mutual interest for cooperation between Ukraine and Chile.

In addition, it is important to find effective mechanisms and create favorable conditions for the intensification of entrepreneurial activity, as well as to attract Chilean investment in important economic projects in Ukraine.

In turn, the potential interest for Ukrainian enterprises may be the implementation of infrastructure projects in Chile, increasing exports of machinery and energy equipment, cars, agricultural machinery of Ukrainian production and more.
