Ukraine is gearing up to present its assessment of the achievement of the goals of the Association Agreement at the Summit with the EU

On September 28, in the framework of the preparation for the EU-Ukraine Summit, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna held a working meeting in Brussels with EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski.

Olha Stefanishyna said that the internal work on assessing the achievement of the goals of the Association Agreement, which will be represented at the Ukraine-EU Summit, is currently at the stage of completion. «Our analysis shows that thanks to the Association Agreement, Ukraine and the EU have scaled up bilateral cooperation significantly and we have managed to introduce a substantial amount of European laws. The Government of Ukraine is also preparing proposals for Ukraine's further integration into the EU».

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that Ukraine had already fulfilled 46% of its obligations under the agricultural section of the Association Agreement and has significant potential for trade with the EU in agro-industrial products.

In particular, Ukraine has implemented a number of EU acts on quality policy, namely requirements for cocoa, chocolate, honey, etc. In the field of organic production, a framework law has been adopted with an aim to create transparent conditions for the production and circulation of organic products.

The official also stressed that the development of bilateral trade in agro-industrial products between Ukraine and the EU requires a revision of the remaining tariff quotas.

«In June this year, Ukraine submitted to the EU specific proposals to update customs tariffs and quotas that will meet the needs of bilateral trade of both Ukrainian and European businesses. We expect to receive a vision of our proposals from European colleagues. We hope for a fruitful conclusion of the talks, as Ukraine and the EU already have successful examples of such cooperation, in particular when reviewing trade preferences for certain groups of Ukrainian goods», said Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna.
